Reflections on Water is a multidisciplinary drawing workshop to explore the physical, emotional and spiritual roles of water in our lives. Participants are welcome to drop in to create a unique artwork inspired by the molecular structure of water to bring home. Facilitated by artist Emily Rose Michaud. Accompanying the workshop will be a combination of Anishnaabek stories by storyteller Alanis King, as well as a soundscape by Emily.
Come listen to fascinating stories of the Anishnaabek by Alanis King. Hear about our ancient relationship to this landbase and the waterways that brought us together. She will also share stories about the magical waterbeings, the traditional canoe routes and why we are connected to this sacred space in the first place. Interpreting Anishnaabemowin place names, using spoken word and song, Alanis takes us on journeys of long ago.
The soundscape is from the 2018 exhibit, Tributaries. 46:00. Layered sounds and music from public archives; field recordings of water; Gaelic folk singers Rita Flaherty, Charlie Coen, Emese Vida; social and political speech and music from Esmerine, used with permission for the exhibit. Songs in order: Born in the Caul; Our Love We Sing; Walking Through Mist and Crossing Little Streams; Hayale Dalmak; Saranu; Ebb Tide; Hayale Dalmak. esmerine.com. Soundscape by Emily Rose Michaud and Richard Conrad Rigby.
